Art Print-Miao Granny
A delightful painting inspired by my unforgettable encounter with a Miao batik maker in Guizhou. Despite the language barrier, Wangyou Lile's warmth and laughter left a lasting impression, leading to this beautiful creation.
Story about Wangyou Lile
Living in Paimo Village, nestled over forty kilometers away from the town in the mountains, she stayed close to home until her sixties. Traditionally, Miao women like her were responsible for batik making primarily for their own attire. In her later years, she partnered with a factory to let more people from all over the world know about this traditional handicraft in Guizhou.
When she first went to Shenzhen (a city in China) to participate in an event, she arrived at night. As she got off the train, she was mesmerized by the dazzling lights of the city. She recalled her mother telling her about heaven being filled with stars and night pearls. She felt as if she had finally arrived in the heavens.
